Maní, one of São Paulo's best restaurants
Whenever someone asks what are my favourite restaurants in São Paulo are, Maní is always on the list. But I've noticed that paulistanos tend to see it as a veggie restaurant - which is a total misconception. Even if they serve whole-wheat penne and beet risotto, many dishes contain meat and fish. Want proof? Here's the current menu:
At lunchtime, the PFs - traditional Brazilian dishes such as rice, beans, steak and fried egg - are hard to beat. Dinner is pricier and more ambitious and the tasting menu definitely has tecnoemotional touches here and there. Chef-owner is ex-model Helena Rizzo, who runs the kitchen with her partner-hubby Daniel Redondo, previously of El Celler de Can Roca.
This Saturday I tried their “especial” martini, made with tequila, pink peppercorns, passion fruit and banana liqueur. It may sound cloyingly sweet, but isn't at all... Maní: Rua Joaquim Antunes, 210, tel. (11) 3085-4148
